The Karachi University administration has issued a circular about the formal dress code for students to ensure a respectful academic environment by maintaining decorum. Explicitly students are not allowed to come to university premises in shorts, sleeveless, tight clothes, graphic-laden apparel, and casual slippers on campus. They have advised students to wear peaceful, clean, and modest clothing to uphold the sacredness of the educational environment.
The attire that is provocative, offensive, and distracting is strictly prohibited. This notification is to foster a conducive environment for learning and promote respect for academic norms and values. The purpose is to create a positive, modest, and respectful appearance on campus to draw boundaries.
This notification outlines “expectations for student’s dress code”, released by Dr. Nousheen Raza, the student's adviser. This includes see-through and revealing dresses of any type. The University notification revealed that tight-fitting garments, and clothing featuring objectionable language or graphics are strictly prohibited. The use of casual slippers, flip-flops, and high heels is also banned within the Karachi University premises.
Karachi University is the biggest university in Pakistan with 45000 students enrolled. The issue, professor, and dean of the Social Science & Education Department at Szabist Dr Riaz Shaikh said “People try to interfere in others’ lives and developing social policy. The actual task of the University is to promote global citizenship to foster tolerance. Society is moving towards provocative and offensive attire.
