Schools Closed Due To Heavy Snowfall In Galiyat

Administrators of Galiyat have ordered the schools to close for the coming four days due to heavy rainfall and hazardous road conditions.
Official notification from the Education Department of Galiyat, heavy snowfall and hazardous road condition that has continually affected the Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding areas. Areas that are under severe snowfall are Nathia Gali, Ayubia, Thandiani, and Changla Gali.
Galiyat Development Authority Director General Shahrukh Ali stated,
“We are making relief efforts for the citizens. Road clearance operations are in process, and an official team is working to reopen the main highway and linking roads to Abbottabad and Murree.”
Due to severe weather, the authorities also restricted tourists from entering these cities, also advising them to avoid traveling to this region. Law enforcement is picketing at checkpoints to turn visiting vehicles back.



The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted more rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall in mountains from 2nd March to 4th March, 2025. The department also assured the community of actively assisting citizens and restoring access to affected areas.
The Murree expressway has been closed from the 17th Mile Toll Plaza and the highway department is actively working on clearing the snow-covered paths. The snow cleaning machines have deployed to restore connectivity and salt is sprinkled on roads to prevent vehicles from slipping on icy roads.



The weather has affected the electricity supply in disturbed areas. The dense fog and strong wind have intensified the cold wave in the region.
Meanwhile, according to Galiyat DSP Imtiaz,
“The decision is to ensure public safety from the hazardous condition of roads. I've advised tourists to avoid traveling to the region.”
