With the winter season upon us, the Punjab government is expected to declare a two-week holiday for educational institutions across the province. These annual vacations provide much-needed relief to students, teachers, and staff from Punjab’s cold weather. Based on the government’s annual practice, public and private schools in Punjab are expected to observe winter vacations starting from 21st December 2024 (Saturday), with classes resuming on 1st January 2025 (Wednesday).
However, the final schedule will be determined by the Punjab School Education Department (PSED) after assessing the province's weather conditions.
This year, severe smog in Punjab caused temporary school closures in some divisions. The government may consider these conditions when finalizing the winter holidays.
In 2023, the Punjab government initially announced winter vacations from 18th December 2023 to 31st December 2023. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the holidays were extended to 9th January 2024 to prioritize students’ health and safety.
To ensure student safety amid fluctuating weather and smog, the Punjab School Education Department has introduced updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). These measures aim to balance academic needs with public health concerns and ensure uninterrupted learning during challenging times.
