LAHORE:
18 private varsities, on Friday, by Higher Educational Department (HED) got barred on different programs from giving admission to any student.
Such universities are degree awarded institute of the province, Punjab. These varsities are banned because of unapproved and deficiency in faculties, departments and programmes.
These Higher Education institutions (HEIs) even did not get approval of the Chancellor to any programmes from regulatory and registration bodies like Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) and Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) etc. Also some of them had opened sub-campuses and without any approval.
In the letters issued to these institutions and universities HED requested for accreditation afresh for unapproved faculties, departments, programmes or sub-campuses to Punjab Higher Education Commission by September 26 for processing. Whereas these institutes are also asked to meet deficiencies already pointed out by PHEC.
PHEC Chairperson Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin and HED Secretary Naveed Awan had taken this issue seriously and asked such universities to follow rules and procedures to safe the students’ future. While the private sectors also complained about delay cases and approvals by government.
