A corruption scandal at Punjab University has come to light in the Education and Research Department.
In a preliminary inquiry, the scandal has revealed financial corruption and fake recruitments. As per the university by law, the authorities are authorized to use the university's surrounding land to lease out or rent out for generating income. Authorities have given the three shops a low rate bypassing proper tender procedure and granting favor to individuals they know.
Involved offices allegedly misappropriated the security deposit of the leased area intended for the university treasury. The former department head, associate professor, and several staff members were involved in this mismanagement.
The Anti-Corruption Department is informed about this fraud and a separate investigation has started against the suspected persons.
The Anti-Corruption Department initiates a comprehensive investigation and strict disciplinary measures against responsible individuals. The previous year, the National Accountability Bureau investigated former Punjab University VC Dr Mujahid Kamran and others who were involved.
NAB observed evidence against Dr Kamran, Dr Khan, Deeba Akhtar, Dr Akhtar, and Dr Hassan Mubeen. The case involved serious allegations against them.
