Asia cup’s biggest upset appears with the third match of the tournament as Afghanistan beats Sri Lanka with a huge margin of 91 runs.
In the third match of Asia Cup 2018, played in Dubai, Afghanistan won the toss against Sri Lanka and decided to bat first. Mohammad Shahzad and Ihsanullah provided a good start of 57 runs to their side. Shahzad played an innings of 34 runs and got out, after which Ihsanullah and Rahmat Shah made a partnership of 50 runs. However, Ihsan then returned to pavilion after scoring 45 runs.

The new batsman Asghar Afghan proved to be a short time guest at the pitch, as he got out after taking only 1 run. But then Rahmat along with Hashmatullah, the next batsman, proceeded to put more runs on the score board.
After playing an excellent innings of 72 runs, Rahmat Shah got out. While, Hashmatullah scored 37 runs before returning to pavilion. Whereas the experienced batsman Mohammad Nabi's innings remained limited to only 15 runs and Najibullah Zadran succeeded in making 12 runs.
From Sri Lankan bowling side, Thisara Perera dismissed 5 players and sent the back to pavilion while Akila Dananjaya bowled 2 players.
Sri Lanka's batting began in the pursuit of the 250-runs target set by Afghanistan. Mendes got out without scoring any runs, Dhananjaya de Silva scored 23 runs, Upul Tharanga made 36 runs and Kusal Perera scored 17 runs and went back to the pavilion. The fifth batsman to get out in the 2nd innings was Shehan Jayasuriya, who scored 14 runs.

The Sri Lankan team tried to pursue the target, but after as their players got out one after the other. So, finally the whole team was all out after scoring just 158 runs in the 42nd over. Remaining players were such as Thisara scored 28 runs, Dasun Shanaka got out at zero, Dananjaya made 2 runs, Malinga scored one run, while Chamara remained unbeaten with a score of two runs.
Among Afghan bowling’s side, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, Gulbadin Naib, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan took two wickets each.
Let us remind you that after this defeat, the five-time Asian Champion Sri Lankan team was knocked out of the event. Now remaining two teams in Group B, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, have qualified to the next stage of the Asia Cup 2018.
